rhyming

One of the literacy skills we've been working on in class has been rhyming. We've talked about it in circle, read books, etc etc and we also play this game (by which I mean it's used for transitions) where the kids listen for a word that rhymes with their name. So like,

Me: Job. Whose name rhymes with Job?
Kids: Bob! Bob! Bob!

Super. So to jazz it up a bit, this week we started asking the kids to think of the words that rhyme with their name. Some have been getting it...others, not so much. Nothing surprising there...BUT!

Smartest Kid Ever: Teacher! I know a word that rhymes with Celeste!
Me: Yea? What?
Smartest Kid Ever: BEST! Celeste and Best rhyme!
Me: Um hell yes it does!!! And let me teach you a secret about rhymes - anything that is true rhymes! So Celeste is the Best! You pass with flying colors and you are set for life kid!

I actually didn't say that but I communicated those sentiments in my big teacherly smile and high-five. I guess I'm doing at least one thing right!
